Elizabeth Chavez, MS, MFT

Elizabeth is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 12 years experience working with individuals who have chronic mental illness. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families using psychotherapy, and has worked extensively with domestic violence. As part of the Círculo de Vida staff, she runs a group for children ages 6-8 whose family has been impacted by a cancer diagnosis, and provides individual and family therapy to Círculo clients. In addition to her work with Circulo, Ms. Chavez works for Mission Mental Health (MMH), an outpatient behavioral health clinic with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Ms. Chavez has worked with the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy program at MMH since the service began there in 2003. Ms. Chavez is also in private practice in San Francisco where she sees low income clients referred by the San Francisco City and County Private Provider Network and the Foster Care system. These clients are often impacted by histories of abuse, neglect and other traumas.

Ana Estrada, Peer Support Counselor

Ana Estrada has over ten years of experience providing Spanish-language support to Latinas living with cancer. She also conducts home and hospital visits to Latinos too ill to attend a support group and to those in the terminal phase of their illness. She facilitates the young mothers support group. Ms. Estrada was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 at the age of 29.

Maria Rubio, Peer Support Counselor

Maria Rubio has over nine years of experience providing Spanish-language support to Latinas living with cancer. She conducts home and hospital visits to Latinas unable to attend a support group and to those in the terminal phase of their illness. She also facilitates a mix-aged women’s support group. Ms. Rubio was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996 at the age of 46.

Florida Barillas, Peer Support Counselor

Florida Barillas has over five years experience providing Spanish-language support to Latinas living with cancer. She conducts home and hospital visits to Latinas of all ages. Ms. Barillas also worked for the Family Developmental Center where she assisted teachers in their work with children.
